Wall Street’s view is that retatrutide could be one of the most commercially important obesity drugs ever launched, though analysts differ on exactly how large it gets. The reason is straightforward: it combines GLP-1, GIP and glucagon activity, has produced weight loss in the range of roughly 20%+ in Phase 3 studies, and could give Lilly a higher-efficacy option above Zepbound while still allowing lower doses for patients who do not need maximum weight loss.

After the June 2026 data, Citi said retatrutide could potentially become a first-line obesity treatment, while J.P. Morgan, RBC and other analysts said the results strengthened Lilly’s leadership position in a market they believe could eventually exceed $100–$200 billion annually.

An early-access option some patients may qualify for

Patients should be aware that if weight loss has been a lingering medical issue, under certain circumstances you may qualify for use of not yet FDA approved medications (such as Retatrutide).

The federal Right to Try Act allows patients with a life-threatening condition to seek access to investigational medications that have completed Phase 1 testing but are not yet FDA approved, when other medications and life style changes have been exhausted, the patient cannot participate in a clinical trial (Lilly’s own trial site now says all clinical trials have completed enrollment).

Excess weight and obesity may contribute to or worsen serious conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, asthma, fatty liver disease, kidney disease, arthritis, reduced mobility, certain cancers, and increased risk of severe infection.

This option isn’t automatically available and is dependent on availability and a patient’s individual circumstances.
